Summary: Paul J. Stauffer (Grandpa to many of us) recorded message to Jeremy and Leonard Family overseas.

Date: Oct 30 – Nov 6, 1970
Location: Lebanon PA
Duration: 35 min
Attending:
- Paul J. Stauffer
- Recipients: Jeremy, Joan, Jim
Subjects:
- Jeremy + birthday
- Travel commentary
- Work + Local happenings
- Political environment of the day
- Joke of the day
Quick note: Printed note on tape box says “Paul Stauffer talking to Jeremy – _______ 1970”. (Looks like November is erased.) Clearly much of the recording centers on Jeremy and an upcoming birthday. So I think it appropriate that this recording is ready to share now a few days before Jeremy’s birthday. SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY JERE! So happy to be able to share this with you!
Also, Please note that there is a tape reel side change at 18:50 in which some content/context is lost. There are a few other “jumps” especially after the side change, but generally I do believe it is from a single “recording” perhaps taken over a few days. (Though I believe the tapes were reused between Grandpa and the Leanoards so I could see how there might be unexpected content unless there was a practice of erasing them before use or letting the tape run out when recording to erase prior messages. Perhaps Aunt Joan can speak to that. 🙂
I really love how this captures Grandpa (I’ll simply let it at that for now) and also find it historically telling (for lack of better word at the moment) the reference to the political climate of the day.
Lastly as well, the recording is generally good, but there are a few rough spots that I did my best to compensate for. Hope you enjoy!
